The new Beacon-3000 on-line analyzer was started-up and commissioned at Citgo refinery (USA) as an upgrade of the old NIR Beacon-2000 analyzer.
Petromerix® Beacon-2000 NIR Analyzer was successfully launched in 1992, as a specialty NIR analyzer dedicated to the petroleum industries. Since then, many of these are being used in numerous refineries worldwide.
Comments from one of the customers: “We have not found any model maintenance to be necessary since installation in 1998. The hardware is extremely robust. It just requires cleaning of the windows about every six months. Sample conditioning is only necessary to the degree that light will show through.”
In 2009 Modcon acquired Petrometrix and developed the new generation of the NIR analyzers, the Beacon 3000. This Analyzer is being located in the control room, protected from the process environment and connects via telecommunications fiber optics to up to 8 field units, which are installed up to 3 km (2 miles) away from the process. No analyzer shelter is required, the field unit uses no electricity and contains no moving parts. Modcon offers Beacon-3000 upgrade for Beacon-2000 users, at a very attractive conditions.
This solution offers greater reliability, increased speed and easier troubleshooting with no need in models rebuilding nor any piping changes. The upgrade normally takes 1-2 days with no process interruption.
